While Türkiye's industrial sector forms the backbone of the national economy, it is also responsible for a significant share of greenhouse gas emissions. In line with global climate targets, the decarbonisation of industry has become a critical priority, both for environmental sustainability and for safeguarding international competitiveness. In particular, mechanisms such as the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) have turned the transition to low-carbon production from an option into a necessity for Türkiye's export-driven industrial sector. In this context, TIDIP aims to build the financial infrastructure needed for this transformation by facilitating industrial facilities' access to the financing required for energy efficiency, the adoption of clean production technologies, and emission reductions. By bridging international development banks with local financial institutions, the Platform will enable industrial enterprises to carry out green transformation investments, thereby contributing to the country's climate commitments while strengthening the global competitiveness of Turkish industry.
The opening session featured remarks by Ahmet Halit Hatip, Director General for European Union and Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Industry and Technology; Mehmet Üvez, EBRD Director for Türkiye; Dr. Kubilay Kavak, General Manager of Escarus; and Dr. Neşen Sürmeli Anaç, Associate Director at Guidehouse. During this session, a comprehensive overview of the TIDIP project was presented, covering the Platform's proposed governance structure, working methodology, implementation approach, timeline, and expected key outcomes. Following the presentations, questions from stakeholders were addressed.
